Rainy season does not mean you cannot travel — it means you have to pack properly. This list comes from what our guests most regretted leaving behind.
Many travellers strike the rainy months off the list automatically, which is a shame. It is when the forest is greenest, the waterfalls actually have water, and accommodation costs meaningfully less.
What changes is how you pack. Below is what our guests mention most often on the way home.
Small waterproof bags
Not an expensive dry bag — two or three heavy zip-lock bags will do. Phone, documents, power bank. The rain here arrives hard and without warning, and an umbrella only covers so much.
Shoes that dry fast
Wet canvas trainers take overnight to dry, and often do not really dry in an air-conditioned room. Rubber or mesh sandals with a heel strap work far better.
More underwear than you think
It sounds obvious and it is the single most common complaint. Humidity means what you wash does not dry on the schedule you planned for.
What you can leave at home: a large umbrella — every property we use lends them — and a poncho-style raincoat, which makes you hotter than the rain makes you wet.
